The Art & Science of Mapping
Clark Geomatics Corporation (CGC) was established in 2001 to provide services to the geographic information technology sector. This has been keeping the company busy since day one. However, during the last few years, CGC's analytical approach to geographic IT became much more integrated with the 'black art' of cartographic design. This integration was greeted enthusiastically by all our clients.
At the same time, CGC carried out research on the state of cartography and it's related techniques and trends for portraying various types of mountainous terrain. Out of that research, we put together a process for, what we think is, an excellent way to portray complex mountainous terrain and landscapes. So, what came out of all this research and development? Well, we came up with a goal to create the best backcountry / hiking maps we can, for you, the customer.
As you know, any time you delve deeper into a subject, you learn new things and you meet new people. This happened to us. Along the way, we teamed up with Bivouac.com (the authority on all things to do with mountains and the backcountry) to create the "Bivouac Backcountry Series", a series of Map Products targetting specific backcountry / hiking destinations throughout western Canada.
Jeff Clark, lead cartographer and a principal at CGC, is the driving force behind the high quality cartographic work produced by CGC. With a corporate background in geophysics, remote sensing and geographic information technology, along with 20 years' worth of experience with all things map-like, CGC is more than willing to help solve your mapping needs.
